College Prep Curriculum

University Prep’s primary objective is to get students ready for college.  From the very first day, students envision, plan, and prepare to accomplish post-secondary goals. The rigorous 5-12 course progression and curriculum are designed to support both success and stamina in college.  With the option for AP and College Now, students can begin their college journey in high school!

Each grade has a dedicated counselor who stays with their students throughout all four years.  They support academics but more importantly, are the main resource for social emotional health and growth.  Additionally, student are supported and developed through peer tutoring, teacher-led office hours, leadership programs, and co-curricular activities.

self advocacy and accountabilty

At UP, our students learn how to responsibly engage in multiple modes of communication and methods for self-advocacy.  Students and families are challenged to meet and exceed a high standard of conduct.  These standards, student voice, and family partnership have helped the schools maintain an environment that is safe, structured, and accountable.

Beyond the classroom

At UP, we are committed to providing after school programs that appeal to all of our students. The Later Gator program allows students to take part in a variety of clubs and activities to supplement their rigorous academic program.  Student athletes take advantage of a variety of sports, staying active representing Gator Pride.  UP regularly ventures outside the classroom to experience the rich learning adventures NYC provides.

Families as Partners

Student success is only possible when school staff and parents are communicative partners.  Communication of progress and expectation is critical to make sure that students are supported and parents are not only aware of what is happening, but are a part of what is happening. In addition to two-way communication, our Parent’s Association meetings are well attended and are an excellent platform for family voice.

JOIN THE PA

Teaching and Leading

University Prep is rooted in a steadfast belief that central to a school’s success is the presence of a strong teacher in every classroom. That’s why we prioritize and invest money and time into nuanced training and collaborative learning, transformative coaching experiences, and the highest-quality formal professional development. Professional development for teachers, staff, and school-site leaders is a critical component of our school model and program. We believe that reflective practice occurs in an environment where there is collaboration, use of meaningful data, and thoughtful discussion regarding instruction. Scheduled into the daily routine of University Prep, professional development opportunities provide teachers and staff time to inquire about practice, study individual and group student data, develop best practices, and ensure accountability for school-wide as well as individual teacher goals.
